Genshin Impact can seem like an overwhelming game, but its early quests will guide you through the basic mechanics of learning to play and assembling a team to help you explore Teyvat. You’ll also be introduced to your player character, who is a twin. You play as either Aether, or his sister Lumine. Whichever you choose you will be known as The Traveler, and your journey will be the same, requiring you to find your sibling who you’ve been separated from.

Along the way you’ll gather new party members, face a range of enemies, and build your strength through new weapons, artifacts, and levels. Below is a range of easy-to-read guides explaining Genshin Impact’s basics, including travel mechanics, Adventure Ranks, and more.

    • Adventure Ranks

      Genshin Impact Divider Katheryne

Your Adventure Rank, sometimes referred to as AR, is a measure of your experience in Genshin Impact. Early ranks go quite quickly as you explore the world and find your feet, but later ranks are far more difficult to obtain. Many limited-time events are gated by having an Adventure Rank of 20, so you’ll want to try and hit this early to take part. Here’s how.

    • Unique Feature Guides

      Genshin-Impact-Divider-5-1

There are many unique features in Genshin Impact and these guides cover the basics. We talk Elemental Resonance, Currency, Friendships, Kameras, and more. Understanding these mechanics will help you along the way.

You’ll earn experience for completing specific tasks in the game, both one-offs and repeatable daily tasks. There are 50 levels to complete, and you can earn Acquaint Fate, Mora, Hero’s Wit, Adventurer’s Experience, Fragile Resin and Enhancement Ore.

Here’s everything else you need to know.

  • Weekly Bosses, World Bosses, And Domains

    Genshin Impact Venti with Dvalin

There are three types of challenges that you’ll want to take on frequently if you are looking to maximize your character’s potential. They are weekly bosses, world bosses, and domains – which can also be split into one-time and resettable domains.

Weekly bosses provide materials to level up talents to full, while world bosses provide character leveling materials. You’ll also want to explore domains. One-time domains tend to reward keys that allow access to treasure chests, and primogems. Repeatable domains are where you can find artifacts for your character.

    • Weekly Bosses

      Genshin Impact Divider World Boss

These weekly bosses are located in Trounce Domains which can be defeated either solo or in a group once per week. It costs 30 Original Resin to claim rewards from the first three each week, and 60 for the rest. The domains reset every Monday at 4am server time.

Weekly bosses reward Northlander Billets for weapon crafting, as well as high-level character ascension materials. Alongside these, you’ll get experience and Mora as usual.

    • World Bosses

      Genshin Impact Divider Cryo Hypostasus

Around Teyvat you’ll encounter a number of different world bosses. Many are elemental-themed and respawn quickly, usually within five minutes of you being outside their immediate spawn area. These world bosses reward character ascension materials and some artifact sets. You’ll need 40 Original Resin to claim each reward.

The most common ones are Hypostasis, and Regisvine types.Hypostasis bosses take the primary form of a cube, which transforms as abilities are unleashed, while the Regisvines look like giant plants. There are also a wide range of other bosses including mechanical and geovishap variants.

    • One-Time And Challenge Domains

      Genshin Impact Divider Domain

Aside from the Trounce Domains, which reset each week, there are two other Domain types, One-Off and Challenge.  The One-Off Domains are usually locked behind puzzles and offer rewards including Priomogems, but only the first time they are completed. You can run them again, but you won’t be rewarded for it. Challenge Domains on the other hand you’ll want to frequently run since these are where you’ll find Artifact Sets.

These guides will help you find and defeat Teyvat’s different domains.

    • Spiral Abyss

      Genshin Impact Divider Spiral Abyss

Spiral Abyss is a partially resetting challenge. Floors one to eight remain the same and can be defeated once for rewards including primogems. Floors nine and above will reset on the first and sixteenth of each month to provide a new challenge. Here’s what you need to know.

  • Weapons, Artifacts, And Elements

Genshin Impact Eula with her Sword

Each character uses one of the five different types of weapons available in the game; bow, catalyst, claymore, polearm, or sword. Bows and catalysts are ranged weapons, while the others are melee. All characters use one weapon type, with the notable exception of Tartaglia (Childe) who wields a bow, yet has an elemental skill that allows him to create and use swords made out of water.

Every playable character also has an elemental type. These influence the abilities they have and how they react with different enemies as well as the surrounding environment. Each element can react with others to create stronger swings and provide other benefits.

These weapons and skills are then complimented and enhanced by artifacts. There are a wide range of artifact sets that focus on boosting elemental damage, increasing health and defense, and improving other secondary stats.

Here’s everything you need to know about weapons, elements, and artifacts.

There are also two smaller regions within these; Dragonspine that sits between Mondstandt and Liyue, and The Chasm which is between Liyue and Sumeru.

As you venture across the world you’ll notice a large number of environmental puzzles, as well as quests to unlock specific parts of the region. Doing daily quests also allows you to collect keys to unlock story quests and character hangouts – branching quest chains that allow you to adventure with different Teyvat residents.

Story and Archon quests both contain the bulk of Teyvat’s lore. Story quests tend to focus on individual people’s tales, while the Archon quests chart Traveler’s journey to find their sibling. Finally, World quests are scattered around each region and are usually stand-alone.
